Unitek Learning and Western University of Health Sciences Launch Joint Initiative

New collaboration will provide Unitek Learning faculty with the opportunity to earn their doctorate degree through WesternU.

Newport Beach, CA – Unitek Learning has announced a new collaboration with Western University of Health Sciences to strengthen the registered nursing workforce. Through this joint effort, WesternU will offer Unitek faculty members enhanced access to their nursing programs. Both organizations share a vision and philosophy of improving communities by increasing access to education and healthcare. Together, they will leverage this academic arrangement to address workforce vacancies and positively impact the community.

“I am so proud to announce our new partnership with WesternU, which is one of the most comprehensive graduate schools for healthcare professionals,” said Abdel Yosef, Provost and Chief Academic Officer at Unitek Learning. “This collaboration will allow our faculty members to pursue their doctorate degrees in nursing through the lens of a federal tuition forgiveness program. We would like to thank Mary M. Lopez, Dean, WesternU College of Graduate Nursing (CGN); Rod Hicks, Associate Dean for Administration and Research Professor; Donna M. Emanuele, Director of the DNP Program and ENP Post Graduate Certificate Program; and all of WesternU for making this possible. Together, we can embrace the transformative power of education and its profound impact on our community’s future.”

WesternU CGN Dean Mary Lopez added: “This collaboration allows us to support Unitek employees who want to grow their careers and invest in creating opportunities for the diverse workforce throughout the state of California and the nation. Our participation with Unitek is a testament to our shared values and dedication to building a sustainable workforce for years to come.”

Through this initiative, Unitek faculty members will have the opportunity to enroll in WesternU CGN’s Doctor of Nursing Practice Leadership Program (DNP-Leadership). This program prepares students to apply and evaluate clinical evidence. In addition, students will learn how to design systems of care delivery that are locally acceptable, economically feasible, and highly impactful. Unitek employees will also receive sup port from the Educational Pathways Program in the Faculty Institute. They project a cohort of approximately 20 students for the 2024-2025 academic year, with an anticipated 20-30 candidates for the 2025-2026 academic year. Through this alliance, they will help these individuals advance their nursing education careers at decreased educational cost.
